A Creative Revolution: Incubating the Next Generation of Design Thinking

Tom Siebel, chairman and chief executive officer of C3 IoT, recently announced a $25 million gift to fund the construction of the Siebel Center for Design at Illinois. The Center will bring students and scholars across the campus together, providing a space to explore innovative approaches to product, process, and user interface design, with an emphasis on advanced technology, creativity, purpose, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Whether it is the design of physical things like a new mobile phone or medication, intangibles like software or social services, or processes such as the best way to deliver clean water in the developing world, the Siebel Center for Design will support all fields by fostering design-thinking academic ideals. As part of the celebration, Siebel will talk about his vision for this Center and why the integration of design into higher education is critical to society.

The Siebel Center for Design

Groundbreaking is planned for the summer of 2017 with construction expected to take about 18 months. The 60,000 square foot building, designed by the distinguished architectural practice, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, will be prominently sited on one of the major campus axes, between Huff Hall and the Art + Design Building. The location is a symbolic link connecting the north and south areas of the campus.
